Golden Hen Farm History
In 2005, Kendall and his wife Ginger started hatching chicks in their two-car detached garage. The operation eventually expanded and was launched as Fox Farm & Hatchery, Inc. The Foxes then purchased the Golden Hen Farm brand and incorporated the business under the name Golden Hen Farm Hatchery, Inc.

Golden Hen Farm: Ideal Meat Birds
Our Golden Hen Farm broiler chickens are great alternatives to fast-growing white broiler chicks and slow-growing heritage breeds. These active, robust chickens are suitable for free-ranging, foraging, and pasturing. They like to spend the day scratching and dust-bathing in the sunlight. Golden Hen Farm chickens produce tender, succulent meat with high levels of omega-3 fats and low levels of saturated fat.
The Lineage of Golden Hen Farm
Golden Hen Farm chickens were derived from an American and European heritage breed that had been developed in the early 1960s to meet the high standards of the French Label Free-Range program.
Qualities of our Golden Hen Farm Chickens
These broiler chickens are perfect for free-range environments. They grow at a moderate rate (5-6 pounds in 9-11 weeks), resulting in succulent meat with more yellow omega-3 fat and less saturated fat than faster-growing breeds. These broiler chicks will grow to have either red or tri-colored feathers, with yellow shanks, skin, and beaks.
Care Instructions for Our Golden Hen Farm Chicks
Caring for these exceptional birds is crucial in ensuring their health, well-being, and optimal growth. Set up a brooder area that provides sufficient space for them to move around freely. Maintain a consistent temperature between 95-100°F (35-38°C) during their first week, gradually reducing it by 5°F (3°C) per week until they are fully feathered.
Golden Hen Farm and Their Personalities
Golden Hen Farm chickens are more than just meat birds. They have distinctive personalities that add joy and character to your flock. Known for their friendly and curious nature, they make excellent additions to any backyard or homestead.
While Golden Hen Farm birds are known for their fast growth and excellent meat quality, they are also known for their docile temperaments. Unlike some commercial broiler breeds, they maintain a calm and gentle demeanor, making them easier to handle and interact with.
